My character, the X-Men Secretary, was a dual synthesis of real historical figures John Tyndall and Thomas Hirst. My character rose up from rather humble beginnings; he was raised a Catholic on a farm in Ireland, the sixth of eight surviving children, and attended public school (Driscoll, et al.). The Secretary tirelessly educated himself in the sciences during his time as a surveyor and mining engineer. When he finally decided to obtain a formal education, the English-Anglican doors of Cambridge and Oxford were closed to him because, though he had not practiced religion since his youth, he was an Irish Catholic on paper. As a result, he moved to Germany to complete a doctorate in physics in just under two years. The Secretary caught the attention of Sir Edward Sabine as a result of his research on magnetism - fictional work modeled after John Tyndall’s - and was recognized and helped to secure a position in the Royal Society. This session was my character’s â€Å"final year of a three year term as member of the Royal Society Council† with the position of secretary (Driscoll, et al.). My Adventures in New York Essay I have a sister that lives in New York, to be exactly in Manhattan. I had always wanted to visit her and see the city that never sleeps. On August, as a birthday gift, she bought me an airplane ticket to New York. I had the chance to spend a week and five days in this amazing, never-ending city. It is an interesting place with different cultures, people, food and a very different way of seeing life. I arrived into the John F. Kennedy Airport. That day, the sky was a little gray, the sun was nowhere to be found and a chill wind scattered the morning mist since I arrived at 6am. My sister went to pick me up and we head it to Manhattan. On arrival in the city, it had skyscrapers of different sizes and high known buildings, like the Empire State and Chrysler Building. The streets were all titled by numbers of streets and avenues. It was a little confusing since were the apartment was it’s a higher number, 42St. and the avenue is just the sixth (6Ave. ). She told me that I had to manage by counting the streets downtown, like that I wouldn’t get lost when I’ll be alone. My â€Å"adventure† began in Korea Town, the same day I arrived, because I wanted to eat some delicious â€Å"Pocket Buns† with kimchee and wanted to see how many Korean store where there too. I didn’t know how to arrive, if we had to use a car or take the train but when I asked my sister, she told me that we could go there by just walking 5 minutes and that I could even see part of the famous 5th Avenue. Arriving to the Korean restaurant I was getting dizzy with all those delicious aromas of beefs, soups, different rices and multicolored vegetables that were cooking. After we order and ate, I felt so satisfy because It was something I wanted to try and it was wonderful. I went to the Empire State, to see the museum and I took many photos when I arrived to the top of it to the afternoon and night in Manhattan, New York. Other days I went to Chinatown. There I saw many things, like: markets that sell seafood, alive and non alive, right in the street. The smell while walking through that part or near in the sidewalk was really strong and horrible, I felt like I was surrounded by them like if they were clothes. They were stores that sell different kind of roots and seeds for teas and medicine. Those seeds and roots didn’t look good, they were dried but look old and the smell wasn’t very nice. Many other stores sell bags, jewelry, clothes, good luck charms and other things. It was really impressive seeing all that for the first time. For my last two days my brother decided to accompany me and tour me a little farther. He took me to see the Statue of Liberty and we took some pictures. After that, we went to Central Park that was really amazing the park is really big and beautiful. You can appreciate many street artists there that dance, play instruments, paint, write poems, draw and even do stunts. That night we went to Time Square to see how it was at night and why it has the name of the city that never sleeps. It was beautiful everything. My last day was one that I will never forget. We went to Ground Cero and its museum. The 9/11 museum is a shocking and impressive one. All the stories of how it happened, the things of the exhibit that where from that day, the cars used and destroyed by the collapse of the tower leaves you without words. They even made a room in honor to all the people that died that day with pictures, information, newspaper clippings of the person and even letters that the families alive write to them. He had been weaving a fantastic tale of a ride he'd taken on a runaway reindeer when Aase realized that the story was one she had beard as a young woman. She berated Peer and wept. Aase had hoped that her son would win the heart of pretty Ingrid Hegstad, a local farm girt. Family Will growing up was an orphan and lived with his foster parents. The absence of his own family made an impact on Will and also family dynamics in the foster family was not an ideal one. Very soon he was left without a family. This experience contributed towards Will developing a negative attitude towards love and care. He believed that nobody would care or truly love him. He feared rejection and as a result of this he never had a consistent serious relationship as he used to get out of one before it could turn into a serious relations hip. While interacting with such a group for motivation, the main idea is to create a sense of belonging. People, who find their niche place in a group, are much more eager to perform tasks to the best of their abilities. The reasons for working vary for people from country to country – In China the work motivation is moral obligation, while in Japan it is trust and in Western societies it is incentives. All these factors should be taken care while motivating a cross-cultural group for working. One should always remember that, in the end all these people are doing the same for albeit for different reasons. My Great Expectations Everything that I have experienced so far in Flagstaff has been great. In the next four years there are many new thing that I will experience here that I never have by living in phoenix. Also I would like to leave here with a lot more knowledge about different things like business and the community of this city. In the outstanding city of Flagstaff I came with a lot of expectation, will experience many knew things in my college years, and also have two main goals before I leave this city. In Flagstaff I have and will experience a lot of new things that did not experience from living in Phoenix. The first thing is the small town surroundings, this is a lot different from living in phoenix most of my life. So far it seems that everyone around here is very friendly and everyone is a lot more laid back. Also the surroundings are a lot different from the desert of phoenix. No longer are there saguaro cactuses and dirt everywhere, now there are pine trees and green grass. The abundance of green makes flagstaff a lot prettier then the desert. I have never lived in an area where it snows in the winter, the Flagstaff winters will also be a new experience for me. These are the great new experiences I will have by living in Flagstaff for the next 4 years. The expectations that I have coming to Flagstaff is having a great education at Northern Arizona University, meet a lot of new people in my four years here, and the new cooler climate here. I expect this university to teach me the business marketing ways so when I get out of college if I work hard I can be a successful business man. Also, the assignment discusses on what should have been done and which was the wronged party. The conflict presented is between the two groups of the recruits that are undergoing training in the VP-92 navy P-3 squadron. The recruits were divided into two groups for a mock target attack mission: one was responsible for identification of the targets and informing the other group about the location of the targets and the second group was supposed to strike the targets. The conflict arose when the group that was supposed to identify targets could not identify the targets to be hit on time due to the fog and mist that was blurring their visibility and making it hard for them to locate their targets. As the targets could not be identified on time, the group that was supposed to strike the targets could not perform their duties on time. As a result a conflict arose between the two groups. Basically the ‘striker’s work depended on the ‘identifiers’ and the second group could not perform well because ‘identifiers’ had a problem with identifying the targets. The ‘strikers’ could not rightly strike their targets and their aim was wrong and not rightly focused. Hence, they put all the blame of their bad performance on the first group. Part III – Choose a Side I choose to be on the side of the group that could not properly identify their targets due to the bad weather and the mist that was blurring their view and became a hindrance to performing well. However, when they persisted that targets should be identified, the assignment was not called off. The ‘ identifiers’ were asked to continue with their searching, which they did but spent a lot of time due to the lack of clarity of vision causes by fog. However, when the ‘strikers’ could not rightly strike their targets, they blamed the ‘identifiers’ for wrongly identifying their targets and also spending a lot of time on searching for targets. I think the conflict was very much genuine and there were no personal reasons for this conflict. The conflict was substantive because the group that was supposed to locate the targets to be struck could not be identified due to external factors such as the weather. Another reason may also have been the location of the ship where the fog was more and the targets were not visible. There was no negative impact on the goal attainment of the organisation or even the personal/ working relationships between the two groups. Since this was a mock assignment that’s aim was to train the new recruits in the navy to properly identify and aim their targets. In my view, the weather condition provided a flavor of the real target attack missions faced by the navy. The goal of this assignment would have been achieved if both the groups became experts in their tasks in variable whether conditions. However, expertise comes with practice and experience. Hence, I think this assignment and conflict was the first step towards attaining the goal. Even though this conflict arose out of a blame game for the two groups, one blaming the weather and the other blaming the first group, the argument was purely professional and not personal. There was a heated debate between the two groups, but this ended when the officers arrived after few minutes to give their remarks. After both the groups had presented their points of view to the officers, they were told that it was a part of the navy life and the navy assignments and no particular group was to be blamed for the failure to aim the target properly. The movie brilliantly captures the miraculous birth of Hanuman and his innocent childhood pranks to his education from the Sun god. The scene when the little Hanuman wakes up and mistakes the sun peeping form behind a mango tree to be mango and rushes to eat it out of grave hunger is one of my favorites. The way he reaches the sun and fight Rahu is extremely interesting. Hanuman- who is the incarnation of Lord Shiva grows up loved and pampered and gradually being trained for his great appointed task. As he grows up, he meets Lord Ram who is also growing up in his palace with his brothers. I particularly enjoyed the scene where Lord Shiva and Hanuman was extremely amusing with his multi-coloured cap and his extraordinary feats amused all of us extremely. Even the Kite scene when little Ram’s kite gets lost amidst the clouds and Hanuman disguising as the monkey is also my favourite scene. The rest of the movie too is interesting. One never loses interest throughout the movie. The movie, all through, captivates one’s attention thoroughly. The other scene, which really liked, is the ones when Hanuman goes to Lanka to search Sita. The entire sequence of the scenes thereafter is my favourite. L really liked each and every scene-the way Hanuman burns down the entire Lanka to teach Ravana a lesson and the scene later of the famous Kumbhakaran with his legendary sleep and appetite. In short, there is nothing that I don’t like about the movie. Enjoyed every bit of it and all the more so in the company of my friend and my family. I like the movie not only because it is entertaining but also because it teaches a lot about our rich and ancient mythology and the Hindu religion to us. It is usually seen that we don’t get the opportunity to know about our religion and the legends in our mythology in normal course of our lives.
